Smear made from vaginal secretion:
Using sterile cotton swab, collect a sample of fluid from the vaginal fornix.
Collecting swabs from two different areas increases the chance of obtaining leaking fluid which may otherwise be missed, avoid the cervix as cervical mucus will yield false positive results.
Roll the cotton swab on a clean glass microscope slide.
Allow slide to air dry completely (a minimum of 10 minutes).
