Interference
False positives: Can occur due to certain conditions like ectopic pregnancy, trophoblastic disease, ovarian cysts, testicular tumors, and some cancers (lung, prostate, breast). A false positive can also result from a recent complete abortion.
Cross-reactivity: Some tests may show cross-reactivity with high levels of other hormones like luteinizing hormone (LH), follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), or thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH), although some kits are designed to minimize this.
Other factors: Sample pH, specific gravity, and testing temperature can influence results, though interference is often limited within specific ranges.
Miscellaneous instructions to collector
Specimen timing: The best sample is a first-morning urine, as it typically has the highest hCG concentration, but any urine specimen is suitable for testing.
Testing environment: The test should be performed at room temperature 17-25 degree C.
Test kit: Keep the test kit in its sealed pouch until it is time for use. Open the canister and immediately close it tightly to maintain stability of the remaining tests for 90 days.
Procedural control: A control line will appear on the test window, confirming that enough specimen was used and the procedure was performed correctly. If the background is colored, the result is invalid.
