After collecting the nasopharyngeal sample, immediately place the swab into the VTM/UTM tube and break off the shaft at the indicator line to fit securely.
Ensure the cap is tightly closed and label the specimen with patient identifiers and collection date/time.
Store and transport at 2–8°C (refrigerated) if testing will occur within 72 hours; if longer, freeze at –70°C. Avoid repeated freeze–thaw cycles.

Interference:
Improper specimen storage or transport (e.g., room temperature for extended periods) may result in viral degradation.
Contamination with mucus, blood, or other biological materials can inhibit PCR amplification.
Inadequate swab material (e.g., cotton or calcium alginate) may interfere with test results.
Miscellaneous Instructions to Collector:
Collect the specimen before initiating antiviral therapy, if possible.
Use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
Ensure proper specimen labeling and timely transport to the laboratory.
Do not use expired transport media or swabs.
