After collecting the nasopharyngeal sample, immediately place the swab into the VTM/UTM tube and break off the shaft at the indicator line to fit securely.
Ensure the cap is tightly closed and label the specimen with patient identifiers and collection date/time.
Store and transport at 2–8°C (refrigerated) if testing will occur within 72 hours; if longer, freeze at –70°C. Avoid repeated freeze–thaw cycles.
