SPECIMEN PREPARATION: If Lavender (K2 EDTA) tube will not arrive at testing department within 2 hours of collection:
– Make 4-6 thin smear slides and 3-6 thick smear slides
– Stain thin smears (Wright/Giemsa) or send unstained
– Thorougly air-dry thick smears before sending them to the testing site
– Do not stain thick smears and do not fix with methanol or by applying heat
– Send the Lavender (K2 EDTA) tube with the slides
For sites submitting EDTA only (slides cannot be made on site), contact STAT courier for pickup
